RESIDENT GEOLOGIST

To provide geological leadership and technical support to the mining operation, ensuring effective geological exploration, resource evaluation, grade control, mine planning and optimisation of gold recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide day-to-day geological leadership and technical support to the mining operation.
  2. Conduct geological mapping, sampling, logging and interpretation of geological data.
  3. Plan and supervise exploration and geological investigation programmes.
  4. Identify and evaluate gold-bearing zones and mineralisation.
  5. Undertake grade control and ensure accurate identification of ore and waste.
  6. Support mine planning through geological modelling and interpretation.
  7. Develop and maintain geological databases, maps, sections and resource models.
  8. Supervise drilling, trenching, pitting, channel sampling and other exploration activities.
  9. Ensure appropriate sampling, sample preparation, QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
  10. Monitor and reconcile ore grades, volumes and gold production against geological expectations.
  11. Provide geological input into alluvial gold mining operations, including identification and evaluation of productive deposits.
  12. Analyse geological and assay data to support resource estimation and mine development decisions.
  13. Work closely with the Mine Manager, Mining Engineers, Surveyors, Metallurgists and Processing teams.
  14. Monitor geological conditions and advise management on opportunities, risks and operational constraints.
  15. Prepare accurate geological reports, production reports and technical presentations.
  16. Maintain geological records and ensure compliance with relevant mining and environmental regulations.
  17. Contribute to resource definition, mine-life planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Mining Geology or a related discipline.
  2. Membership of an appropriate professional geological body will be an advantage.
  3. Minimum 5–8 years’ relevant geological experience, preferably within gold mining.
  4. Demonstrable experience in gold exploration and/or gold mining operations. Experience in alluvial gold geology and mining will be a strong advantage.
  5. Practical experience in geological mapping, sampling, drilling, logging, grade control and geological interpretation.
  6. Experience with geological modelling and relevant geological software.
  7. Strong understanding of mineral resource estimation principles and QA/QC procedures.
  8. Knowledge of Zimbabwe’s mining and environmental regulatory framework.
  9. Experience working in the Zimbabwean mining sector will be an advantage.
