To provide geological leadership and technical support to the mining operation, ensuring effective geological exploration, resource evaluation, grade control, mine planning and optimisation of gold recovery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide day-to-day geological leadership and technical support to the mining operation.
- Conduct geological mapping, sampling, logging and interpretation of geological data.
- Plan and supervise exploration and geological investigation programmes.
- Identify and evaluate gold-bearing zones and mineralisation.
- Undertake grade control and ensure accurate identification of ore and waste.
- Support mine planning through geological modelling and interpretation.
- Develop and maintain geological databases, maps, sections and resource models.
- Supervise drilling, trenching, pitting, channel sampling and other exploration activities.
- Ensure appropriate sampling, sample preparation, QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Monitor and reconcile ore grades, volumes and gold production against geological expectations.
- Provide geological input into alluvial gold mining operations, including identification and evaluation of productive deposits.
- Analyse geological and assay data to support resource estimation and mine development decisions.
- Work closely with the Mine Manager, Mining Engineers, Surveyors, Metallurgists and Processing teams.
- Monitor geological conditions and advise management on opportunities, risks and operational constraints.
- Prepare accurate geological reports, production reports and technical presentations.
- Maintain geological records and ensure compliance with relevant mining and environmental regulations.
- Contribute to resource definition, mine-life planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Mining Geology or a related discipline.
- Membership of an appropriate professional geological body will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5–8 years’ relevant geological experience, preferably within gold mining.
- Demonstrable experience in gold exploration and/or gold mining operations. Experience in alluvial gold geology and mining will be a strong advantage.
- Practical experience in geological mapping, sampling, drilling, logging, grade control and geological interpretation.
- Experience with geological modelling and relevant geological software.
- Strong understanding of mineral resource estimation principles and QA/QC procedures.
- Knowledge of Zimbabwe’s mining and environmental regulatory framework.
- Experience working in the Zimbabwean mining sector will be an advantage.
